Display Style
Switch between Keseran Pasaran and GOKI — GOKIs's two interchangeable looks.
GOKIs has two display styles. The simulation underneath is identical; only the sprite changes.
Keseran Pasaran (default)
A small, fluffy ball of fuzz inspired by a creature from Japanese folklore. Soft, friendly, and always the right company for your desktop — no questions asked.
This is the default for anyone who picked I don’t know on first launch.
GOKI
A realistic cockroach sprite. “GOKI” is short for gokiburi, Japanese for cockroach. The escape behavior is modeled after real cockroaches, and this style is the most faithful to that research.
GOKI is shown only when you opt in — either by choosing Yes, show me GOKI during onboarding or by switching from the menu bar afterward.
Switching styles
- Click the ant icon in the menu bar.
- Open Display Style.
- Pick Keseran Pasaran or GOKI.
- GOKIs shows a “Restart Required” alert. Quit and relaunch the app.
The behavior of the critters is unchanged — only the sprite swaps. Count, text boundary, and on/off state are all preserved across restarts.
Why the restart?
Each sprite is generated as a Metal texture at launch time. Swapping textures live is possible, but a clean restart keeps the renderer simple and the visuals consistent. The whole flow is fast — quit and the app reopens within a second or two.
