Settings
Every menu bar option in GOKIs, in the order it appears.
GOKIs has no preference window. Every option lives in the menu bar — click the ant icon to open it.
Show GOKI
Toggle the simulation on or off. When off, the overlay is hidden and the renderer is paused. Your current population, count, and display style are remembered until you turn the toggle back on.
GOKI Count
Pick how many critters appear on the desktop. The options are logarithmic:
| Count | Notes |
|---|---|
| 1 | Easy to follow one critter. |
| 10 | Default. Lively but uncrowded. |
| 100 | A small swarm. |
| 1,000 | A clearly visible mass. |
| 10,000 | Expect a wave moving along the edges. |
| 100,000 | Stress-test territory. Metal compute keeps it smooth on Apple Silicon. |
Changes take effect immediately — the simulation respawns critters at the new count.
Show Text Boundary
Toggle the “GOKIs” text shape that acts as an extra wall. When enabled, critters cluster along the outline of the word. When disabled, they only follow the rectangular screen edges. This option is on by default.
Display Style
Switch between Keseran Pasaran (fluffy mascot) and GOKI (realistic cockroach). Switching requires a restart of the app; GOKIs shows an alert with a restart prompt. See Display Style for the difference.
Hunt Mode
Toggle hunting on or off. While it is off (the default), mouse clicks pass straight through the overlay and other apps stay fully clickable. While it is on, the overlay captures clicks so you can squash the critters, and a brief swat cursor frame flashes on each hit. Turn it off to hand clicks back to your other apps. See Hunt Mode for the full walkthrough.
Hunt Weapon
Choose how wide each click reaches:
| Weapon | Reach |
|---|---|
| Fingertip (Pinpoint) | A 25-pixel radius. Precise — you have to aim. |
| Slipper (Wide) | An 80-pixel radius. Forgiving — clears a small crowd at once. |
The weapon only matters while Hunt Mode is on.
Quit
Exit GOKIs. Settings are remembered across restarts. The onboarding dialog does not repeat unless you delete the app’s stored preferences.
